Pretty Flowers For You using Jar of Love

I love the simplicity and bright cheery colour of this card with pretty flowers made with my new favourite set Jar of Love. While different to the Jar of Love Shaker Card it remains soft and feminine. This time I used Watermelon Wonder, Old Olive and Soft Sky.  The flowers are created using a 2 step stamping method and the light colour was simply the same Watermelon Wonder ink but stamped off first.

I love the simplicity and bright colours of this card with pretty flowers made with Jar of Love. Give this card to someone who needs cheering up.

Instructions

Measurements

• Card base is Watermelon Wonder card stock, half an A4 piece, scored and folded in the centre. Basic Black card stock measures 9cm x 13.3cm and Whisper White measures 8.5cm x 12.8cm.

Start Stamping

• Using Memento Black ink stamp the Jar image on the white. I use my Stampin’ Pierce Mat with Photopolymer stamps to give a great image every time.
• Stamp the leaves with the stems going inside the jar using Old Olive ink. Stamp the water inside the jar using Soft Sky ink.
• On a 12mm wide piece of Whisper White, stamp the sentiment in Watermelon Wonder and cut the flag points on one end and punch a 3.2mm (1/8″) hole in the other end.

Pretty Flowers

• Stamp the flowers on some Whisper White using the 2 flower stamps. With these small flowers it doesn’t matter if you stamp the light or dark colour first.
• For the light colour  ink up the stamp with Watermelon Wonder and then lightly stamp it onto your desk blotter before stamping on the Whisper White, this will give you a lighter version of the colour.
• When you stamp the second stamp you will use it fully inked with Watermelon Wonder. Use the flower framelits and your Big Shot to cut out the flowers.
• Put each flower face down on your Stampin’ Pierce Mat and rub them with your bone folder or the larger end of the stylus from your Simply Scored. This shapes the flowers slightly therefore making them more natural looking    and adds interest.
• Adhere the flowers using a dimensional to keep the slight curve you have created. Finally add a small pearl to the centre of each flower.

Finishing Touches

• Cut a piece of Basic Black Bakers Twine to the length of the jar top and a seperate piece tie into a bow. Thread the sentiment onto the twine and adhere across the top of the jar using a spot of Tombo at each end.
• Put a couple of flowers inside the card and stamp some on the envelope if you wish.

I would give this card to someone who needed cheering up to really brighten their day with pretty flowers. To find out more about 2 step stamping or any other technique from this post I run classes every month in Onehunga.

Jar of Love Shaker Card

Wow, I have found my new favourite stamp set… Jar of Love and it’s so exciting because it also comes in a bundle with the Everyday Jars Framelits! I spotted this set when the catalogue first came out however I just ordered the bundle this month.

It’s not until you have the set in your hands or start to use it that you realise sometimes just how amazing they are, this happened when I discovered there was a framelit to cut out the fish stamp and the little firefly! Wow, no fussy cutting! Plus there are so many cute images to choose from including 3 jar sizes, lovely flowers, the fish, the firefly, leaves, heart and a darling bow.

My card making group had asked me if they could make a shaker card so when I spotted this one from Juan Ambida I knew I’d found the project I wanted to teach. Juan was inspired by the card on page 74 of the Annual Catalogue, where the Jar of Love set is shown, consequently the shaker is filled with confetti hearts.

I love the softness created by the sponged background, the use of vellum and the confetti hearts are just so sweet and feminine.

I love glass jars, so it's no surprise that I fell in love with the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars framelits. You'll be sure to see it popping up again in future classes.

I love the sweet feminine shaker card cased from Juan Ambida

Instructions

• Card base is Thick Whisper White Card.

Shaker Card Window Panel:

• Whisper White card stock measurements; Background 10.1cm x 14.4cm, Shaker Window Panel 6.5cm x 12cm, Back Panel 5.5cm x 8cm.
• The sentiment has been stamped on window sheet measuring 5.5cm x 8cm with black Stazon ink. See my tip on Facebook for using Stazon with Photopolymer stamps.
• Stamp the Jar image on the back panel in Smoky Slate.
• Jar window created by die cutting using the Everyday Jar Framelits in the Big Shot. Also die cut are the confetti hearts in Flirty Flamingo and Gold Foil and the jar lid that has been gold heat embossed.
• Glue the gold hearts inside the jar in place so they stand out rather than falling to the bottom.
• Use adhesive foam strip to mount the layers and house the confetti inside. Run the embossing buddy around the inside before adding the confetti hearts to remove any stickiness.
• Decoration on the jar lid is a vellum leaf that has been die cut with the leaf framelit.
• The Flirty Flamingo flower is from the Sunshine Wishes dies.
• Stamp the sentiment on vellum with Black Stazon and punch out with the Sweetheart punch.

I love glass jars, so it's no surprise that I fell in love with the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars framelits. You'll be sure to see it popping up again in future classes.

Close up of the cute confetti hearts and the details of this shaker card

 Background Artwork Panel:

• The splatter image is from the “Swirly Bird” set and is White heat embossed.
• I have sponged Flirty Flamingo ink over the White embossed splatter which resists the ink.
• Use the splatter image again on the Jar shaker card panel using Flirty Flamingo Ink.
• The outlined sketchy heart shape is from the Sunshine Wishes dies using Whisper White card.
• A few clear sequins were added just for interest on the background.

Inside the Card:

• Sponging was continued here but not as much.
• The Whisper White flower is the same as the Flamingo one from the jar lid.

I love glass jars, so it's no surprise that I fell in love with the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars framelits. You'll be sure to see it popping up again in future classes.

Jar Tag cut out from window panel:

• Use the left over jar shape to make a tag. Stamp the image using Memento or Archival Black Ink. It’s easy to line up by looking through the clear block.
• Stamp the Fireflies from Jar of Love inside the jar and one on a small piece of Whisper White and use the framelit to cut him out.
• Colour the Fireflies using a  Daffodil Delight marker pen.
• Adhere the cut Firefly to the top of the jar with a glue dot. Wrap bakers twine around the top of the jar and tie in a bow.
• Stamp a sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White and adhere to the jar, I used Thoughtful Banners.
• If you want to hang the tag punch a hole and add another piece of bakers twine to the top.

I love glass jars, so it's no surprise that I fell in love with the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars framelits. You'll be sure to see it popping up again in future classes.

Cute tag made from the cut out jar from the shaker card. I love the fireflies.

The creativity is endless with the Jar of Love set, you can create some beautiful and unique cards and tags for many occasions. As a result it’s my new favourite and I can’t wait to create another project using this fabulous bundle. For more ideas follow my Pinterest board. Embossing Technique

I had a fun weekend with my monthly craft class on Saturday where I taught a great embossing technique. Then Sunday was spent creating samples for Extravaganza later this month.

Embossing Technique

I found a gorgeous card I wanted to case from Jennifer Frost, one of the Stampin’ Up!® Artisan designers. But she hadn’t explained how she did the embossing in her post. A little Googling and I had the answer!

To emboss part of an image in a folder using this technique I taped a piece of thick cardboard to the outside of the embossing folder over the part of the image I wanted to emboss. In this case the bottom array of flowers.
Use the base plate with all the tabs. Place the embossing folder and card on the platform and put one standard cutting pad on top and run it through the big shot. The cardboard with the tabs closed gives the approximate thickness of the other cutting pad.  The uncovered part of the embossing folder wasn’t under pressure therefore it did not emboss. Now that I know this embossing technique I’m sure there will be lots more uses for this.

My favourite embossing powder – Copper, was used to emboss the flowers and sentiment. Then we cut them out by hand and decorated the inside with another embossed and hand cut flower positioned over an embossed leaf.

Launch Party Projects

Wow, It’s been 2 weeks since the launch party and it’s been full on. On the day 4 lovely ladies joined me and had a great time, first they enjoyed looking at the samples I’d made using supplies all from the new Annual Catalogue. Do you know I took no photos on the day! I know, how bad is that! Therefore you will have to imagine a table filled with samples, sorry.

Next I had a challenge in the form of a catalogue scavenger hunt. I had a series of questions and the guests had to answer them using the new catalogue. It was an open book game but it did require a bit of concentration so I served coffee and a yummy chocolate brownie at this stage 🙂 Everyone handed in their sheets and we quickly went through the answers. They all scored really well but were each tripped up by a question or 2 so I put everyone in the draw to win the stamp set. The Suite Sayings stamp set was won by Heather, congratulations!

Launch Party Projects

Time for craft, I had 2 cards for everyone to make using new product and some of the new In-Colours. We used the Love & Affection Stamp set, Floral Affection Textured Embossing Folder and the Layering Love Stamp set also the gorgeous new Ruched Ribbon in Flirty Flamingo.
